Bob Chaundy host of Considering Art Podcast interviews Basil King
@bobconsideringart Thanks to Bob Chaundy for a wonderful interview.
Bob Chaundy writes: “89-year-old painter and poet @basilkingog talks about how he has known and worked with some of the great figures in American art. Born in London, he moved to the US when he was 11 and attended Black Mountain College in North Carolina in the 1950s, a bastion of Abstract Expressionism. He was a friend of Franz Kline and the poet Robert Creeley, he met Willem and Elaine de Kooning, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. When he became a part of the New York art and poetry scene he worked as a studio assistant to Adolph Gottlieb, Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko. Despite a lack of recognition, he continued to paint and write poetry, and still does to this day. He tells wonderful stories about his life and work and his deeply held passion for painting. A must listen.
